 A bit off Schedule
« Thread Started on Sept 9, 2009, 12:06am »

In the light of day, finding ones way through the streets of the poor district was simple enough. The street names could just be made out on the dirty, bent metal signs, and there were always a few differences between one alley or another. Plus, all the usual beings who lived in the area were asleep, hiding away from the sunlight, waiting to do their deeds until after shadows appeared to hide in. However, once the sun set, the streets were an entirely different place. The signs were too obscured to make out, and all the dark corners made each street and alley blend into one, nothing to differentiate one from the next. Not to mention the many dangerous people who wondered the area, just waiting for some idiot to walk by.

Cambree, usually, managed to get back to the apartment with Morgan before darkness fell. Usually she left work a few hours before sunset, picked her son up from daycare, and walked home, making it into the building half an hour before the streets became dangerous. However, this day had been different. Her boss had requested her to stay after in order to participate in a meeting. Not realizing how late it was, she had agreed. By the time she got out and had picked up Morgan it was already twilight.

Walking down an alleyway, the young mother held her five-year-old's hand tightly, making sure he didn't run off and get out of sight and lost in the dangerous streets. She didn't know where they were, and everything was too dark for her to find any landmarks. On her shoulder perched a furry creature, its tail wrapped around her neck and it's beady eyes searching the dark corners.

"Mommy, are we home yet?" the small child asked his mother, his feet dragging and kicking an empty beer bottle, sending it skipping across the concrete, only to crash and shatter against a brick building wall. At the loud sound the skinny boy jumped, clinging to his mother's leg.

Cambree sighed, glancing around the alley nervously. Looking down at her son she knelt, brushing back some of his light brown hair affectionately, "No, sweetheart, not yet." She gave a reassuring smile, "Just think of this as an adventure. You're Superman, and you're exploring your home planet Krypton. But its deserted and dangerous, so you have to stay with me and be extra careful."

The boy's blue eyes lit up at the idea, and he smiled, nodding vigorously, "Okay, Mommy."

She forced another smile, "That's a good boy." she reassured, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.

( I hope I can join in with you if that is alright with my character. If not I can delete this posting.)

Just down the alley in a dark and musty corner sat a figure. The alley was dark and musty smelling with the stench of tossed stomach fluids and urine from some drunks that wandered around aimlessly. The tall figure was a woman and the dark did not pose as a downfall for her. It was her greatest friend in the long run for she was a vampire. It helped cloak her in the dark when she went on the hunt.

Most vampires however drank of humans and this one vampire was totally different. She was a doctor and a part time mechanic that loved to build up old cars and restore them to their natural beauty. She was somewhat a vegetarian vampire for she only drank of animals but never did she take the lives of them. She only took what she needed and moved on leaving the animal only slightly dazed but nonetheless unharmed except for a small nip of blood here and there.

Listening to the rats scuttling past a resounding crash abruptly awoke her from her daze. It was the smashing of an empty beer bottle not too far away from where she was that exploded from a building. Looking into the dark it was like daytime to humans really. She could see, hear and smell everything perfectly fine.

When she listened to the mother talking to her son it looked like about being superman she gave a slight snort of laughter. Not wanting to alarm them she slowly came out of the shadows into the dull lights so that her long red hair lit up and framed her kind looking face. She walked a bit of a ways toward the boy and his mother and spoke in a light and kind voice, " What would you two be doing down an alley like this? Are you lost and can I offer some assistance possibly to speed you on your way from the nightlife?"

Smiling a kind smile she was partially worried about the two of them for most vampires and werewolves that come across a human would only play games with them and then eventually kill them slowly and mercilessly. She could feel for them and then the small sight of a creature on the womans shoulder caught the tall red headed womans attention. She could not see it too clearly for it seemed partially hidden. The woman waited for the answer of the others and warily looked about to make sure no other vampire had scented them. Sure she was a vampire but being a doctor she had been mistaken a lot or the human and the unsuspecting vamp or werewolf found out the hard way.

It is said that ythere are two wolves fighting within a man. One is Hate, the other is Love. You ask which one triumphs. Well the one you feed the most.
