Role playing is, above all, a form of art. Treat your writing this way! Posts should be well crafted, well edited, and well written. This means proper spelling, punctuation, and quotations around anything spoken from a character's mouth. Take pride in your writing.
--Please note that we do not intend to interfere with any creative or stylistic preferences, so if you choose to write in all lowercase letters and instead of outlining spoken statements with quotation marks wish to put them in an opposing color, feel free to do so.
A word limit of at least 200 words is required per post.
Quality is, of course, desired over quantity. Take this to heart as, this is again, your writing.
Only with expressed permission may you control the actions or thoughts of a character not belonging to you. This includes killing them.
Decaying London is designed to give its members board-wide situations to post off of. These board-wide story lines must be followed in a detailed manner for this to work. However, since these plots are rather restrictive it is not required for your characters to partake in them.
To my great dismay, explicit intimacy between characters is not allowed because it is against the Proboards terms of service and could result in the deletion of this site. Please do not describe any bodily parts or functions when role playing intimate scenes. Failure to comply with this will result in at least a warning, deletion of the posts in question, and potentially expulsion from the site. You may not post anything obscene or sexual. Another site may be set up in the future for people who wish to RP intimacy, but as of now, no descriptive sexual content may be posted as it is in violation of the terms of service set by Proboards.
You may create as many characters as you want, but keep them active. If, at any point, you wish to delete them, excuse yourself from all plots you're involved in first.
Each character must have a separate account, but you may have an extra account that not connected with a character for all OOC purposes. For account names, please refrain from using any manner of decorative materials - semicolons, brackets, and the like - as they tend to clutter the boards and stretch thread titles.
If your dialogue calls for another language, please list the translations somewhere in the post.
NPCs (non-playable characters) are allowed for any sub plot purpose.
Out of character Contract
This is a writing community, and as such you should treat the people here as members of your community at home. Be friendly and respectful.
Do not slander ethnic groups, religious groups, political groups ect, even if the slandering is not directed at one person individually. I know this can seem difficult when political plots are introduced to the site, but slandering another person on any of the previously stated materials is against the Proboards terms of service. Warnings will not be handed out in these cases; if you slander, you're gone.
Posting personal information is a choice we allow our members to make but bear in mind that DL cannot be held accountable. On this note, do not post personal information about other players, even with expressed permission (again, this violates the terms of service). They can easily do it themselves if need be.
Please place all signature portraits and any outsidce information in your signature as a link. Avatar pictures are 180 x 291 pixels.
